Inguinal hernia

The groin hernia, the most common one. Open or laparoscopic repair depending on the case, and the judgment of when surgery is actually indicated.

At the navel. In adults it does not close on its own, and a small defect is not always the safer one.

Over the scar of a previous operation, including complex abdominal wall and reoperated cases.

Calm authority, not alarmism

A surgical consultation is not a place for pressure or promised outcomes. It's a place to understand the diagnosis, the real options, and their risks — with the time that requires.

That's why this site avoids unsupported figures and claims: what's communicated here is aligned with verifiable clinical guidelines, and anything not yet confirmed is explicitly flagged.

What decisions rest on: each type of hernia has its own evidence base. Decisions draw on the current guidelines of the societies I belong to — American College of Surgeons, American Hernia Society, European Hernia Society, SAGES and the Asociación Mexicana de Hernia — and on primary literature when the case calls for it. Each page cites the guideline that applies to that hernia, not a generic one.

SAGES Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons American society for gastrointestinal and endoscopic surgery Active member. Founded in 1981, SAGES sets the standard for laparoscopic surgery: it publishes the guidelines, edits the journal Surgical Endoscopy, and created the FLS certification that the American Board of Surgery requires of every general surgeon in the United States.
